MEET OUR PASTOR
Apostle Derrick Montgomery was born in Wadesboro, North Carolina. He is one of four sons
born to Trustee John and Minister Dannie Montgomery. Apostle Derrick has been an avid
worker within the church since a young child, receiving the Holy Ghost with the evidence of
speaking in tongues at the age of 4 years old. Apostle Derrick Montgomery has worked in
various areas of ministry as Youth Pastor, Children and Adult Sunday School teacher, Choir
director, Praise Team Leader, Praise and Worship Instructor, Pastor’s Aide, and Church Planting
Team member.
Apostle Derrick Montgomery’s spiritual training came out of The Church of God of Prophecy,
Morven, N.C., where Pastor Iris Tillman and State Bishop, Bishop Steve Gilmore, trained him in
Community Evangelism, Church Planting, and Church Leadership. Apostle accepted the call to
preach in the summer of 2000. Due to his ministry effectiveness he was licensed by the
National Board of the Church of God of Prophecy in 2001 and placed on the Evangelistic Team.
The Evangelistic Team afforded Apostle Derrick at a young age to travel all over North Carolina,
South Carolina, and Florida to evangelize and assist in birthing churches connected to the
Church of God of Prophecy.
Apostle initiated his first ministry on the campus of UNC-Pembroke in 2004 when four college
students asked him to start a bible study on campus in his apartment. The Bible study grew
quickly from four to fifty college students as attendees. The group was subsequently forced to
meet in a larger space and encouraged the Student Life Director to request that the ministry
become official on campus. This ministry served the local community in volunteerism, teaching,
and support groups.
By May of 2008, Apostle had accepted the call to pastor in Fayetteville, North Carolina, under
the name United Ministries in Christ. In February of 2012, Apostle met with Interim Pastor
Mary Collins and the Board of Blessed Family of God where they requested Apostle come in and
Pastor their congregation. After both church boards met, it was agreed that the ministries
would be combined to have a greater impact on Cumberland County. During the year of 2017,
Apostle was led to release Blessed Family of God Church to the care of Pastor Mary Collins and
return to his original work of United Ministries in Christ Church.
In 2014, Apostle Derrick and Bishop Vivian Hutcheson of A Place Called Hope Church embarked
upon a journey of establishing a covenant relationship under the umbrella of United Ministries
in Christ. This relationship has begun birthing ministries, to include their own, within the states
of North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. Apostle currently holds His Baccalaureate Degree
in Social Work, a Masters Degree in Theology and a Doctorate Degree in Theology and Spiritual
Counseling. Apostle owns and is the Dean of a fully accredited Seminary school, “People United
College and Theological Seminary”.
